ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని పరిచయం చేద్దామని అనుకోగానే, ఆవేశంగా మొదలుపెట్టేశానుగానీ, వుడీ అలెన్ కైండ్ ఆఫ్ డ్రై హ్యూమర్ గురించి వర్ణించాలంటే, మాటలు కాదు. ఈ తరహా హాస్యం మనకు పూర్తిగా కొత్త. కొంత ఫిలాసఫీ, కొంత అబ్సర్డిటీ, కొంత సెక్సువాలిటీ కలిసిన ఈ హాస్యాన్ని వర్ణించడానికి “Woody Allenish Comedy” అనే పదం పుట్టిందంటే, ఇంకా చెప్పాలా ? నేను చెప్పడానికి కష్టపడటం కన్నా, Let Allen speak for himself.

Why does man kill? He kills for food. And not only for food: frequently there must be a beverage. –

నాలుగు వన్-లైనర్లు చూపించి ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని చదవితీరాలని చెప్పనుగానీ, This book is much more than one-liners. అలెన్ తీసుకునే కథా వస్తువులు కూడా, తలచుకుంటేనే నవ్వు పుట్టించేలా ఉంటాయి, కానీ వాటిని మరోవైపు నుంచి చూస్తే, They are funny because they’re true. ఉదాహరణకి, “The Whore of Mensa” లో థీం “ఆడవారితో తెలివైన సంభాషణలకి (Intellectually stimulating conversations అని నా బాధ)  మొహం వాచిన ఒక మధ్య-వయస్కుడు, ఒక “Intellectual Whore” దగ్గరకి వెళ్ళడం”. ఇది చదువుతున్నంతసేపూ, పడీ పడీ నవ్వినా, ఎక్కడో, “అరే, నిజమే కదా” అని అనిపిస్తూ ఉంటుంది.

Recommended to anyone with a liking of surrealistic word play and absurdity.  మీరు అలెన్ నటించిన సినిమాలు కొన్ని ఇదివరకే చూసి ఉంటే మాత్రం, మీకు ఈ పుస్తకం విపరీతంగా నచ్చేస్తుంది, ఎందుకంటే, కొన్ని డైలాగులు అలెన్ చెప్తున్నట్టుగా ఊహించుకుంటే, they are funnier.

చివరగా చిన్న హెచ్చరిక, అలెన్ హాస్యం అందరికోసం కాదు, ఇది మన దగ్గర్నుంచి కొంచెం ఇంటెలెక్చువల్ లెవెల్‌ని డిమాండ్ చేస్తుంది, అలానే మీ వొకాబులరీ కూడా ఒక మాదిరిగా ఉంటే తప్ప అలెన్ జోలికి వెళ్ళకండి.
