On one sunday, pustakam.net interviewed a family run shop owned by the uncle Mr. Mohammad Aziruddin and helped by his young nephews Syed Ijaz and Mohammad Ibrahim Jameel.

1. How long have they been in this business?
Ans: Mr Mohammad Aziruddin proudly mentions that their establishment was set up on 14th Jan 1982.

2. What are the recent best sellers?
Ans: Chetan Bhagat, Sidney Sheldon, Jefferey Archer.

3. Current buying patterns
Ans: Interior design books.

4. If a customer were to ask for a book not in stock, how long would they take to obtain it?
Ans: 1 – 2 days only. But it could take longer if they need to get the book from Mumbai or Delhi.

5. Future plans?
Ans: Mr. Aziruddin emphasises that printed books are evergreen but possibly they could have a presence on the internet.

6. How are customer buying stats compared to good old days?
Ans: Purchases of children’s books have reduced. Everyone seems to prefer cartoons/games nowadays.

7. Who come more often to these people to buy books?
Ans: All kinds of customers. Highly ranked officials and ministers are among their patrons.

8. What profit do they get? How much do they earn per month?
Ans: Around Rs. 8-10,000

9. So, what do they do on non-sundays?
Ans: They have a regular shop close by and everyone is invited there.

10. What are their challenges, say during the rainy season?
Ans: Books do get wet and pages stick. But they take precautions to avoid such situations.

11. How do they price their books? Is the price uniform throughout all of their shops?
Ans: The price they sell is usually 50% less than the printed price.
