-రెండూ బాగున్నాయ్! మొదటిది అందరూ తప్పక చదవాల్సిందనిపించింది (రాసిన శైలి నాకు నచ్చకపోయినా!)
రెండవది – బెంగళురు వాసులు బాగా ఎంజాయ్ చేస్తారు.
నిన్న రాత్రే ’కాసనోవా 99′ అని ఒక యండమూరి నవల చదివాను. బాగుంది. ఒకసారికి నాకు నవ్వురాకుండానే తెలుగులో థ్రిల్లర్ నవల చదివాను. (అక్కడక్కడా కొన్ని డైలాగులు నవ్వు పుట్టించినా కూడా, నవల చదవడానికి బాగానే అనిపించింది). అయితే, ఇంతకీ, ఈ నవలకీ ఆ పేరుకీ ఉన్న సంబంధం మాత్రం అతి స్వల్పం. కథలో ఆ సదరు ’కాసనోవా’ గా పిలువబడు పాత్ర కథకే తన పేరు పెట్టేంత నిడివి ఉన్నట్లు అనిపించలేదు నాకు.
పేర్లు మాత్రం భలే పెట్టారు – మాంధాత, స్వప్నమిత్ర ఫాక్స్ (అంటే ఫారుక్ ఓం క్జేవియర్ లాంటి మతసామరస్యపు పేరేదో!!!) ఇలా
టైంపాస్ ఔతోందని తెలీనంత వేగంగా పాసైపోయిందనుకోండి, అది వేరే విషయం.
ఆకెళ్ల రవిప్రకాష్ త్వరలో విడుదల చేయనున్న “ప్రేమ ప్రతిపాదన ” పుస్తక ప్రూఫ్ ను చదువుతున్నాను. అద్బుతమైన కవిత్వం.
ఇదెంటో సౌమ్య లు ఎక్కువ ఐపొయారు ఒక్క సారిగా.

“కాసనోవా 99″ మా తమ్ముడికి ఫేవరెట్! “He is at his best…” అనిపించే నవలైతే “ఆనందో బ్రహ్మ” నా వరకూ!
యండమూరిని జోలికి వెళ్ళే ముందు మీరు పేర్ల విషయంలో సిద్ధమై వుంటమే మంచిది. కొన్ని ఆయన నవలల్లో మాత్రమే వినపడతాయి. ఉదాహరణకి: నికుంజ్ విహారి (ఆఖరిపోరాటం), ప్రమద్వర (వెన్నెల్లో గోదారి), ఉత్పలమాల (మరణ మృదంగం), సమద్యుతి (అంకితం), బృహస్పతి (మరో హిరోషిమా), రేవంత్ (వెన్నెల్లో ఆడపిల్ల), వాయుపుత్ర (చీకట్లో సూర్యుడు)… యిలా i can go on and on!
పూసపాటి ఆనందగజపతిరాజు పై వివిబి రామారావు రాసిన మోనోగ్రాఫ్, దుగ్గిరాల గోపాలకృష్ణయ్య పై ఐవి చలపతిరావు రాసిన మోనోగ్రాఫ్ – చదివాను. నాకైతే, మొదటిది చదివితే, రాజు గారు చలనచిత్రాల్లో సూపర్ హీరోలా – అనిపించారు. మోనోగ్రాఫులంటే మరీ ఇన్ని పొగడ్తలతో నింపేయాలా? అనిపించింది.
దుగ్గిరాల గారి కథ: ఆయనపై ఆసక్తి రేకెత్తించింది. ఆయన కుటుంబ ప్రస్తావన అసలే లేకపోవడం పుస్తకం గురించి ఆశ్చర్యం కలిగించింది. ఇక – ఆయనలోని మంచి గుణాలని హైలైట్ చేసినా కూడా, ఆయన లో ’లోపాలు’ అనుకోదగ్గ వాటిని కూడా వివరించారు కనుక, ఇది పై పుస్తకంతో పోలిస్తే మంచి పఠనానుభవమే.
గిరీశం లెక్చర్లు – బై ముళ్ళపూడి : చాలామటుకు ఎంజాయ్ చేశాను. ఏమైనా ఈయన భాష మరొకరికి రాదు
ఓహ్…అన్నట్లు మరో బయోగ్రఫీ కూడా చదివాను. ఎమ్.ఆర్.పాయ్ గారిది. Strand Book Stall వారి ప్రచురణ. నాకు బాగా నచ్చింది. స్పూర్తి కలిగించేలా ఉంది. నాబోటీ సామాన్య జనానికి పరిచయంలేని ఈ వ్యక్తిని గురించి తెలియజేస్తున్న స్ట్రాండ్ బుక్ స్టాల్ వారికి ధన్యవాదాలు.
Recently finished reading “VandElla Telugu Katha”, “Telugu Kathaku JeJe”. Both books carry some very good stories… however it was really really really disappointing that likes of “Peddi Botla Subbiraamayya” and “Madhuramthakam Rajaram” did not make it into both books.
Also, read “Kaantham Kathalu” by Muni Manikyam Narasimha Rao.
Also read “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. In this short novel Steinbeck takes readers to the midst of his characters and story.
Currently reading “Malladi Ramakrishna Sastry Kathalu – 2″.
My reading has never been more erratic. It would be a list of reading-books, rather than completed books.
Dreaming Water by Gail Tsukiyama: Novel on relationships, friendship and death. Makes a wonderful read and stays with you.
Book of Shadow – Don Paterson: I was too surprised to see a book full of quotes, nothing but quotes by an author. I don’t know what else he wrote, but this book is a feast to anyone who love sarcasm, honesty and love. Not a book to be read and thrown away. Something that should be carried with you and inside you.
Aatreya Aatmakatha – Yo! You read that right – it’s our very own Aatreya writing about himself and guess what, it becomes a double feast as he attempts to tell his story in metered poems. But it’s just not about the language, not about the poet in him. It’s about what life gave him and what he gave it back. Some books need a lot of emotional strength from the reader. This is certainly one of them.
Catch 22 – Joseph Heller: Boy, O Boy! Ever since I started with this book, it became a habit to read at least a page or two of this novel, every single morning. I’ve read enough comedy before, but this guy takes me to the heights of craziness, of sarcasm, of life. A friend and I were discussing about this book and we came to interesting conclusion, “Reading this book is in itself a Catch 22 situation.” Now, what’s Catch 22? Ask Joseph Heller.
Was re-reading Dorothy Parker’s short stories. Man, she overwhelms me.

Mythical Man Month – Frederick Brooks: A writing which makes me super delighted for having read it, and super depressed that I didn’t read till few weeks back. If you term yourself as a Software Engineer, READ THIS.. a timeless classic.
Beautiful Code – Leading Programmers Explain How They Think: Read it in bits and pieces – Beautiful book.
Writing Effective Use Cases -Alistair Cockburn: Again, I read it in bits and pieces, but what a thorough introduction to Use cases. I found it helpful.
Oh.. by the way, read Bohumil Hrabal’s “Too loud a solitude” – What a writing! I LOVED IT!

పుస్తకం లో ఈ ఫీచర్ చాలా బావుంది. మరికొంత మంది పాఠకుల్ని ఇందులో పాల్గొనేట్టు ప్రోత్సహించాలి.
నేను ప్రస్తుతం “వంశీకి నచ్చిన కథలు” చదువుతున్నాను. వివిధ రచయితలు రాసిన 50 కథలు – ఎప్పటెప్పటివో పాతవాటి నించీ ఇటీవలి కథల దాకా – సెలెక్షనుకి ఒకటే క్రైటీరయన్ – వంశీకి నచ్చడం.
చాలా నచ్చింది. దీన్ని గురించి ఇంకా వివరంగా రాయాలి.

If you’re a Telugu literate and at least secretly wish to write stories, then essays on story writing by Kalipatnam RamaRao is a MUST READ.
I don’t intend to match it with the likes of Stephen King’s On Writing or Orhan Pamuk’s nobel lecture, but I was too happy to find writings in Telugu which deal with the craft.
High recommended to anybody with sensibilities and sensitivities of a story teller. If you’re not the one, find among your friends and family to gift it.

ఇటీవలే నేను ప్రముఖ కవి,రచయిత గుల్జార్ గారి ”రావి పార్ ‘ అండ్ అదర్ స్టోరీస్ ‘ ఆంగ్ల అనువాదం చదివాను. రోజుకి ఒక్కో కథ మాత్రమే చదివే వాడిని, ఎందుకంటే ఆ కథనే మరల మరలా మననం చేసుకోవడానికి వీలుగా… అంత చక్కని కథలు. ముఖ్యంగా టై టిల్ కథ ‘రావి పార్ ‘ … స్వాతంత్ర్యం వచ్చినప్పుడు దేశం రెండుగా చీలినప్పుడు ఆ ప్రాంత ప్రజల మనో వేదన ఎంతో హృ ద్యంగా ఆవిష్కరించింది.
