PIPPI IN THE SOUTH SEAS REVIEW

Chapter book by Astrid Lindgren (This is a famous series from 1970s).
Pippi’s father goes missing, while he was sailing one day. Pippi is fearless, so with a suitcase filled with gold coins, she moved into a town where her father had bought a house. In the town she meets Tommy and Annika. She makes friends wit them. With Tommy and Annika, she finds her father.

Pippi’s father had become a king of an island. On the island, she goes on many adventures. For example, she teaches a few naughty men who wanted to take pearls from the island, such as making them walk up a steep hill etc.

I recommend others also read “Pippi in the South Seas” because it is a story about an adventurous, fearless girl who goes on adventures and it might encourage someone to be brave.

GUSTAVO, THE SHY GHOST

Picture book by author and illustrator Flavia Z. Drago

Gustavo was a very shy ghost. He had no friends. But one day, because of an occasion, he made friends.

The main character is Gustavo.

Gustavo was lonely. He tried getting close to other monsters. But, they couldn’t recognize him because he wasn’t himself. For example, Gustavo was shaped like a soccer ball, lamp, balloon, book, mat, etc. One day, he took the courage to write a letter to the other monsters. It invited them to

Gustavo’s own, personal performance where he would play his violin. On the day of performance, no one came. Gustavo was sad, so he played his violin. In the book, when ghosts feel happy they glow. Gustavo was feeling happy so, he was glowing. When he did this, the monsters (saw him and) came. Some said they were late and others got lost. So, Gustavo played and the monsters danced. Like this, he made friends and was never lonely again.

I recommend others read this book because it might encourage someone to make friends.
