Dear Friends,

The only true equalizers in the world are books;
The only treasure-house open to all comers is a library;
The only wealth which will not decay is knowledge;
The only jewel which you can carry beyond the grave is wisdom.

“Nearly 700 million Indians live in 600,000 villages across rural India. Connectivity of village complexes providing economic opportunities to all segments of people is an urgent need. We need to innovate to increase connectivity to the villages, making clusters out of them even while retaining their individuality”
-Sri Dr.Abdul Kalam’s vision (PURA – Providing Urban Amenities to Rural Areas) is to provide four hubs for the development of rural areas where One amongst them is “Knowledge Hub”.

As part of fulfilling this, with the goal of providing necessary information to the villages in the field of Education, Agriculture and other infotainment areas, WHAT came up with “Viganana Vikasam” – A Library for rural areas. And also with future goal of connecting the village with the rest of the world in the fields of Law, Health and Hygiene, Eco-Friendly living etc so that excellence is achieved in all fields through which the Village can be turned into a Model Village.

Currently we are in the process of purchasing books for the Library and looking for your support for the below.
What we need from you:
1. Please take a look at the attached list of books. Please let us know if you have any of these books and ready to donate them to “Vignana Vikasam”.
2. Let us know if you can suggest a book shop (any where in AP) which can provide us discount
3. Suggest us if you wish to add any other books to the list.

When will this project be live?
On Nov 14th 2010, WHAT’s first Library will be set up in Rampuram Village, Tekkali, Srikakulam District, AP.
More details of this project will be published soon.
Any questions/Suggestions are open.
Thanks,
Team WHAT (wehelpandteach@gmail.com)

    When I was in a remote village working as a manager of a nationalised Bank, I came across one voluntary organisation in Nellore ditrict called JANA VIJNANA VEDIKA.I worked with them to establish small laibraries in 2 villages with the donation of money and books collected from the interested parties.For that we started the fund with our own money.Now also I am ready to devote my time for the cause.I may not comtribute much in cash but service wise I am ready to do anything when I come to India in the month of december this year.My cell number is 9440361381.
    Good luck to you,
    Karlapalem Hanumantha Rao(Retired Bank employee).

    This is worth circulating widely. My impression is that many individuals in the cities have lots of books, even small libraries and many villages do not have good libraries. Recently I requested a friend in Hyderabad (who was planning to get rid of his books to make more space) and he has kindly sent three shelves of books to a village library. I think that it is also important to know what books are being used and in demand in the villages, this demand may be variable. It is good to see a list of books which seems to be coming from a survey.

    Thanks for letting us know.
